Shrinkrs / Convert images
Convert JFIF to JPG
JFIF files are JPEG images with a different file extension. Shrinkrs gives you a proper .jpg with the original image data untouched, so there is no quality loss at all.
How to use the JFIF to JPG tool
- STEP 1
Add your .jfif files
Drop up to 50 files on the box or choose them from your device.
- STEP 2
They convert instantly
The JPEG data is copied as is under a .jpg name, so it takes no time and loses nothing.
- STEP 3
Download
Save the JPGs one at a time or as a ZIP.
What a JFIF file actually is
JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is the container that ordinary JPEG photos have always used, so a .jfif file is a normal JPEG image whose name ends in .jfif instead of .jpg. For a period, some Windows setups and versions of the Edge browser saved downloaded pictures with this extension, which is why many people now have a folder full of them.
Because the contents are already JPEG, nothing needs to be re-encoded. Shrinkrs checks that each file really starts with JPEG data and then hands it back with the .jpg extension, byte for byte.
When you want something else
If you want the file to be smaller, run it through Compress JPEG afterwards. If you need transparency or want to edit the image without further quality loss, convert it to PNG with the JFIF to PNG tool. If a file turns out not to contain JPEG data after all, Shrinkrs re-encodes it to JPG so you still get a usable result.
Questions people ask
Is there any quality loss converting JFIF to JPG?
No. The image data is copied unchanged. Only the file name extension and type change.
Can I just rename the file myself?
Usually yes, since the content is already JPEG. This tool saves you doing it for many files at once and confirms each one is valid JPEG data.
Why did my computer save the picture as JFIF?
Some Windows and older Edge setups assign the .jfif extension to JPEG images from certain sources. Changing the default app or extension association stops it.
What about JFIF to PNG or WebP?
Use the JFIF to PNG tool for lossless PNG, or Compress JPEG if you want a smaller file.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
